UK citizenship Question?

My paternal grandmother was born in London in 1900, I have a scanned copy of the original census record from 1901. My father was born in Cape Town in 1941. They are both deceased, and my question is regarding my chances of being able to gain UK citizenship
My father was never awarded citizenship, for some reason they never bothered with it!
well to be honest I already have a German passport so it doesn’t worry me that much getting UK citizenship. Its just for interest really!

Mothers were unable to automatically pass down nationality to children born in wedlock until the 1981 Act came into play in 1983. Your father would have had the right to register as a British citizen via descent under this but not beforehand unless he was illegitmate.

You don’t qualify for automatic citizenship however if your nationality is of the Commonwealth you would qualify for an Ancestry visa. As you hold a German passport and due to the treaties in place with the EU citizens you don’t need one.

If you still want British citizenship you’re more than welcome to do it the old fashioned way by living in the country for 6 years (the final year holding Indefinate Leave to Remain) and the naturalizing as a British citizen.
