“The Prophet (Muhammed) married her (Aisha) when she was six years old and he consummated his marriage when she was nine years old, and then she remained with him for nine years (i.e., till his death).”

There is no historical record of any of God’s other prophets sleeping with little girls. Can anyone come up with any evidence?
I’m amazed at the ignorance with a couple of these answers here. Totally ignoring the question with irrational rationalisations to try and defend something they have swallowed without logical reason!

Furhtermore, to be married in Islam, one has to be mature.
Also, it was so common in this time to marry this young. And the hadith is like the bible in a way; it is not the word of God, and many have been proven to be false. hadith are organized according to how reliable they are based on the people that said it and how many people said it.

And actually, in Islam, marriage is more of a contract. her father actually offered her to another man before him who rejected because she was muslim.

This time period is like atleast 600 years before you. IN the middle ages, 12 year old brides were the norm! And they were often given to people who were in their 30s or 40s.
Understand the time period, and the fact that they had to be mature before marriage before trying to insult a religion you don’t even understand or know about clearly.
And Christianity and Judiasm condone both rape and kidnappings. Remember the story of where the men conquered the town and killed all the women who were not virgins and then forced the virgins to be the wives of the men. Then, they felt sorry since there were not enough wives and went to kidnap some from a dance.
Also, according to O.T., if a brother does not impregnate his dead brother’s wife, she is to be killed

And for the guy who says they still marry little girls now, there is a reason for that. Arab culture is pretty pathetic and it condones the oppression of women while Islam elevates them and condemns any form of oppression. Now, because people are so poor and most middle eastern countries are war-struck and in upheaval, parents wed their daughters as soon as possible to create security. Not saying I agree, but combined with Arab culture and turmoil, it is the net result.
