Obviously, John McCain has a long list of Democrats and Independents on his list of allies. Some of the legislation he’s written up with them has passed, some hasn’t; some of the bills have been beneficial, while others have been disastrous. Still, you can’t fault him for sitting in the middle; that’s where you hear most of the arguments.
Mitt Romney, of course, was a Republican governor of the most liberal state in the union. While he was there, he had a consistent record of deciding “pro-life” whenever legislation came across his desk with any such issues involved, including stem cell research. When the MA Supreme Court declared that gay marriage wasn’t “illegal”, he championed legislation that made it illegal. And he was still able to work with the legislature to pass health insurance reform, and never raised taxes, despite closing corporate tax loopholes and raising certain voluntary fees.
Which candidate do you think would do a better job with a Democratic Congress?

Of the two you give, I would have to say Romney. He does not have enemies yet in Congress and he has a strong background in business.
