public records search gov

How to find superior court case rcords &#8211; FREE?

Everything I search, including gov sites, eventually links to a site that charges a fee!  Is this info not PUBLIC RECORD??!! If so, I must not be entering the right search criteria; this is a county level court case. Please help!!!
