Advice with US records, paricularly 1913-1916?
I’ve been told my great-grandfather went to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for a few years before settling down with his wife and starting a family. But nobody really knows what he got up to while he was there.
I’ve searched the Ellis Island database and found a possible match docking in NY in 1913, and I know he had returned to England by 1917, because that’s when he married my great-grandmother.
I’m not familiar with the US records, so I don’t know what there is to search through. I’m aware that if he was there from 1913-1916, he wouldn’t appear in the censuses, but are there any other records I can search?
He was known to be a boiler maker (on ships), so it’s possible he would have picked up a similar job in Philadelphia.
Can anyone advise?
